Version 1.6 Released! New Campaign!

Hey townies and nomads!

It brings me great joy to say that 1.6 is here!  I'm very excited for everyone to try out what we've been working on.  Below you will find a list of all the new additions.

This update adds the following:

  • Fleshes out combat
  • A map of Dragontown
  •  Further tweaks to skills
  •  Knacks
  • Stunts
  • Encounters
  • Homebase
  • More Guidance
  • New front cover
  • New back cover
  • Expanded character creation (Ancestries, archetypes pathways)

Now we've talked about some of these things in prior updates, however we'll answer some questions you may have.

What is end of day?

End of day is a mechanic I recently introduced into our live actual play.  The mechanic serves as an opportunity for the player to get in some roleplay they want, while also alleviating some of the writing on the ref's part.  After the crew has completed what the ref deems to be the main objective of a section, they can offer an end of day sequence to allow members to pick specific NPCs or players they'd like to further the story with.  End of day doesn't have any particular trigger, and is largely left up to the referee.

Factions and Reputation

This is an element we're adding to the world to create a social mechanic.  Instead of the actions of the crew affecting them on a personal level, you will have relationships and reputations to maintain with certain factions.  Think of the Seraphena family, if you doublecross them, or betray them in some way, the news will spread.  Rivals of Seraphena will come to your aid and begin supporting your endeavors more, while the allies of Seraphena will resent you and refuse to work with you.  This can create some more roleplay opportunities and also give players consequence to their actions.  One pursuit may cut off a different avenue later.  Allowing for an ever expanding narrative.

Homebase

Due to the nature of some of our upcoming campaigns, a homebase is needed for some crews.  Whether you're part of a criminal enterprise or a petty theft group just trying to get by.  Regardless of your occupation, you need a place where you're safe and you can rest.  The homebase will serve as this.  A nice place for the crew to idle for a bit.  No restraints on this either.  Where do you stay at?  A one bedroom apartment?  A mansion?  A warehouse on the docks?  Anywhere is possible in Dragontown.

Ancestries, Archetypes, and Pathways

Something that became very important to us during this update was not only fleshing out the game mechanic side and giving the players more in the world, we also wanted to give a stronger base to character creation.  We have added in a myriad of ancestries for you to choose from when creating a character.  These ancestries create an even more diverse environment that feature people from all over, even some from the sea.

We have further fleshed out archetypes via adding in pathways.  For comparison, I would think of pathways as a subclass that you get from the start of the game.  Pathways allow you to figure out the build of your character as well as assisting in helping you figure out the backstory and personality of your character!

Both of these additions have streamlined character creation with characteristics that apply to your ancestries and pathways.  These will both be giving you stats that help build your character faster!

Loot items
When we initially started Dragontown, we wanted to leave a lot of the game up to the groups that would be playing it.  Now, while still allowing that, we want to introduce some items to help further develop the world.  Among the loot items, you'll find some new weapons to add onto our newly added gunplay system.

Savage Season

Along with the release of 1.6, we are also releasing a new Dragontown criminal campaign called Savage Season.  Written by Tyler McAlister, one of the game devs here, Savage Season puts the players in the role of some criminals trying to make ends meet when they get entangled with one of the crime syndicates in Dragontown.  A follow up is planned, but we wanted to get this out

We continue to change the game and evolve thanks to suggestions by you, the people playing Dragontown.  As usual, any comments and feedback will be taken into consideration as we continue to develop the game further.  Look forward to what we have planned next, but until then enjoy 1.6!
